Talk about getting your signals crossed…
When her brother cancels their backcountry ski trip, Robyn Maxwell takes it in stride. The fact she’s deaf doesn’t make her survival skills any weaker, and she’s been craving the chance to escape into the Yukon wilderness. Only the sexy beast of a man she bumps into at the cabin starts cravings of another kind, setting her hormones raging as well as raising strange questions about wolves, and mates, and pack challenges.
All wilderness guide Keil Lynus wanted was a nice quiet retreat before challenging for the Alpha position of his Alaskan pack. He wasn’t planning on meeting his destined mate, or finding out she’s not aware she has the genes of a wolf. Between dealing with his accident-prone younger brother, a deaf mate with an attitude and an impending duel to the death, his week—and his bed—is suddenly full.
Far from the relaxing getaway any of them had in mind…
Warning Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “talking with your hands”. Includes dangerous use of sarcasm and hot nookie in a remote wilderness sauna.

Wolf Signs Northern Lights Edition Granite Lake Wolves Book 1 eBook Vivian Arend
I was excited for this book. The synopsis was so interesting and the fact that the main character Robyn is deaf adds depth to what could have been an romance book. Unfortunately everything fell flat. Robyn's character is strong, the fact that she has a disability does not hinder her in any way which I liked, but it was as soon as Keil was introduced the plot fell away. While the conflict an language barrier was there in the beginning it really just fell to the side. Plus I was annoyed at Robyn and Keil' s instant romance. There was no getting to know each other, no build up to the romance and I was just so bored. Robyn just instantly trusted Keil and immediately wanted to sleep with him despite still being a virgin. The sex scenes were also bland and boring. I am so glad that this was a short book. I do give credit to Arend for deciding on having her main character be deaf, but I felt it could have been handled better.

Wolf Signs Northern Lights Edition Granite Lake Wolves Book 1 eBook Vivian Arend Reviews
I have read both versions and they are both really good, but this one is missing the back story of how Robyn became deaf. The fever is mentioned at the very end but the part where it is told to Kiel (and us readers) has been edited out, which creates a notable and/or confusing plot hole to new readers.
Wolf Signs Northern Lights Edition (Granite Lake Wolves Book 1)
A very lighthearted and laid-back story. There is humor. Not the kind that makes you do a belly laugh, but it does make you grin often.
The main characters are very likable. The story is very well written. No typos/editing errors of any kind, no repetitiveness or any of those annoying things that drive you nuts when you are reading.
Both the story and the writing flows easy and sweet.
My problem (and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is the lack of intensity. There is very little passion or excitement. I mean the type that gets your heart pumping.
There is a very beautiful adult love making scene and a somewhat quick fight scene.

This was a quick and okay read.
Robyn needed a break from city life and makes a trek out to Granite Lake Cabin every year on vacation with her brother Tad, a bush pilot. Only this time Tad is unable to go due to work obligations and Robyn decides to go alone.
It is here at Granite Lake Cabin that she meats Kiel and his accident prone brother TJ.
Robyn is deaf, Kiel is an Alpha wolf who recognizes that Robyn, unbeknownst to her, is a full blooded wolf and his mate.
There were moments of humor that helped move the story along and any and all drama was quickly taken care of and not dragged out.
It's a cute story with fun characters, and very, very sweet. Unfortunately, it could have been so much more. Every bit of tension is instantly resolved. Every bit of subterfuge fails. Every bit of drama ends as soon as it starts. The result is a fairy tale romance with no drama or tension. You never worry if they'll make it because no threat lasts long enough to challenge them.
I would have probably given this 5 stars, BUT for a book that is 169 pages, to have 2 people who just met have as much if not more than 25 pages of sex was just too over the top...LITERALLY. IF I want trashy love novels, I would buy trashy love novels. I bought this because I thought it was about wolves, shape shifters, etc, but when a good. I have read a LOT of this style of books, Margaret Liu comes to mind, and especially a lot with wolves and this was by far the most sex in this genre than I have read.
THAT SAID...I liked the characters. I liked her being a strong female and not full of flaws that could only be made better with a man...The story was sweet and I did decide to try book 2 to see if it is a good read or a good read with over the top sex scenes. If more of the same, then I will not buy more of her books.
Loved seeing a heroine with what most people would consider a handicap in that environment. It was more real and believable since it was made clear that she grew up in that environment, not a stupid person decision to go ahead just because she had done it once.
The pace of the relationship development was good for the genre. TJ is hilarious.
A couple of questions came up for me at the end-how did her sat phone battery last so long (with the extreme cold), and why weren’t there a million texts from her family checking on her? Because you know there would be.
I plan to check out the rest of the series.
There was just no way I could finish this one.
The promise of this book was great. A deaf heroine, wolf shifters and steamy mating. Unfortunately the execution of the novel caused me to not finish it and rate it low. The main problem for me was the writing. It as all over the place, not making much sense in others. I found myself having to re-read sentences because they didn't match the sentence that came before it. After a while it became confusing and restarting. After a while it became pointless to continue. The writing was cheesy, tasteless and over-the-top causing me to roll my eyes so many times I became dizzy. I have read quite a few shifter romances and compared to most this falls short.
Although I didn't particularly enjoy this novel, I am interested in reading more from this author; maybe I'll enjoy something in a different genre. However, I wont be continuing this series.
